F: Does one side of the Face droop? Ask the person to smile.
A: Is one Arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S: Is Speech slurred? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Is it repeated correctly?
T: Time is of the essence. With any of these symptoms, call 911 or get to the hospital immediately.
DAWN Stroke Protocols
We offer patients screening using advanced image processing technology known as RAPID CT Perfusion, which pinpoints the area of damage caused by an ischemic stroke, locates salvable areas of brain tissue, and can establish a timeline for when the stroke occurred. This increases the window for acute treatment up to 24 hours.
The DAWN Stroke Protocols are used at Backus Hospital, Hartford Hospital, Hospital of Central Connecticut and MidState Medical Center.
