Hartford HealthCare Appoints Director of Counseling Services

Hartford HealthCare Behavioral Health Network named Christine Chew, Ph.D., as director of counseling services for Hartford HealthCare’s CampusCare program at Quinnipiac University. She will begin her new position on January 30.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Chew join our Counseling Center at Quinnipiac. She brings a wealth of knowledge and embodies leadership behaviors that will allow her to be successful,” says Ralph Dodd, Psy.D., director of collegiate counseling, Hartford HealthCare Behavioral Health Network.

Dr. Chew earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Saint Louis University. She has more than 20 years’ experience providing evidence-based care to patients and families and, most recently was employed as a behavioral health psychologist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where she launched the Medical Coping Clinic, a center providing care to patients with both medical and mental health issues.

Before relocating to Connecticut, Dr. Chew spent the majority of her career at Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania, where she provided inpatient and outpatient care, was a member of several multi-disciplinary care teams, helped launch the Pediatric Integrated Behavioral Health Care Program, directed the American Psychological Association accredited pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship programs and engaged in program evaluation.

In her new role, Dr. Chew will supervise the daily operations of the Counseling Center and partner with Quinnipiac’s associate dean of student affairs for health and wellness to promote psychological well-being across campus. When asked about her new position, Dr. Chew states she is “excited and enthused” to have the opportunity to not only supervise a great counseling staff and continue to provide clinical care but also to work on ways to prevent students from becoming overwhelmed by the challenges of college life.

“It’s the best of both worlds when you have the resources of a great health system partnering with the resources of a great university, all to better the psychological health of students,” Dr. Chew says.
