The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of Cheryl Bartley now through early November in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield St. in Torrington.
The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing Artist of the Month program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Folk art painter Chery Bartley’s talent was apparent from an early age when she produced her first works of art as a means of communication. Raised by a French Canadian family, she relied on a paintbrush and a box of paint to express herself to her English-speaking friends. Her early love of expressing herself with her art resulted in working for over 45 years as a professional artist.
Cheryl unleashes her imagination and creativity from her Folk Art Spirit studio in Winsted. Her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas and wood, and watercolor on paper. The inspiration for her lifelong fascination with telling stories with paint is revealed in her folk art spirited creations. Each painting will enchant you with its detailed happy scenes of simpler times. Cheryl uses mixtures of vibrant colors to produce scenes from her imagination and actual places that are warm and inviting, vibrant and exciting. Her folk art collection can be seen at her studio in Winsted and at www.cherylbartleydesigns.com.
Cheryl holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in fine art. She teaches art for recreation departments, private venues and hosts painting parties for adults and children in her studio. Cheryl licenses her folk art images through Art Licensing International to manufacturers to put on products such as puzzles, fabric, needlepoint, home décor, poster, canvas, prints, greeting cards, garden flags, led wall art, and much more.
The Charlotte Hospital Auxiliary consists of 200 members and 25 board members. These special people give their support and time throughout the year by raising money through the operation of the CHH gift shop, membership dues, special vendor sales, an annual fashion show, the Artist of the Month Program and a holiday season’s greeting promotion.
The Auxiliary supports many functions including donations to the hospital’s annual women’s heart health program, and volunteer tea, cancer fundraisers and capital campaigns. In addition, the Auxiliary awards annual $1,000 healthcare scholarships, including the Dr. Alfred Febro Scholarship and one in memory of Joseph Curi, MD.
