The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of Jim Lafreniere now through early September in the hospital’s main lobby hallway at 540 Litchfield St. in Torrington. The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
As a Connecticut native and Morris resident, Jim is at home with the changing seasons. Most of his work reflects scenes from his New England surroundings. In 2012, Jim began his art career after taking a class and learning he had a hidden talent, likely acquired from and inspired by his mother, who also painted landscapes using watercolors and oils. His one-of-a-kind paintings often include barns, lighthouses and seascapes in vibrant watercolors. You will see his signature mark of three birds in the distance on each and every piece. Jim’s artwork is often seen in libraries and at art shows, church functions and craft fairs throughout the region.
Jim recently donated two original paintings to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in honor of the kindness and expertise of our caregivers in the Emergency Department. They are displayed in the main ED/Radiology hallway for all to enjoy.
“I wanted to show my appreciation for the healthcare heroes at CHH, and I hope my artwork brings joy to all those who see it,” he said.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fashion show.
